Fortaleza

Founded in 1726 and elected state capital of Ceará in 1799, Fortaleza is recognized as one of the most beautiful cities in Brazil and has been investing in improved infrastructure to its 2.5 million inhabitants and also for the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit it annually. Ceará is one of the smallest states of the country and its capital is currently the fifth largest city in Brazil in number of inhabitants.

Fortaleza has about 30 km of urban stunning beaches, including the Iracema Beach, the Ironman Brasil Fortaleza race start, Meireles and Futuro Beach. The city also presents rich cultural heritage, traditional local cuisine, music and dance, a population full of joy and an increasingly modern infrastructure that has been establishing it as one of the main tourist destination in Brazil. Tourism

Brazilian northeast region presents some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. In Ceará state, where Fortaleza is located, the wild beauty of places like Jericoacara and Canoa Quebrada are internationally known as paradisiacal places. However, it´s not necessary to leave Fortaleza to be at amazing beach scenery as the city has 30 km of coast land. At Beira Mar, main avenue of the city, you can get a glimpse of Fortaleza enchantments such as Iracema Beach, where Ironman Brasil Fortaleza will take place.

At night, Iracema Beach is the meeting place for those who into the nightlife as the beach has great options of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. Many people also gather at Ponte dos Ingleses to enjoy breathtaking views of Fortaleza coastline, sunsets and relax with friends. To experience a bit of local culture, visitors must visit Centro Cultural Dragão do Mar, where the Museum of Contemporary Art and Dragão do Mar Theater are located.

Maracuripe Beach is known as the beach of rafts and offers a post card scenery with its colourful sails. Here visitors can take boat trips to see Fortaleza from another angle and also visit the small market that sells fresh fish caught by local fishermen. A little farther from the urban area, Futuro Beach is a haven for surfers and visitors due to is beauty and crustal waters.

Nevertheless, Fortaleza has not only unforgettable natural attractions but also historic and cultural ones. Tourists must take some time to visit Teatro José de Alencar, Palácio da Abolição, Farol Velho do Mucuripe, Praça Portugal and Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora da Assunção – places full of local history. Another great attraction is Beach Park, one of the largest water park in Latin America.

Fortaleza is a modern city with increasingly infrastructure to receive local and foreign visitors, a gateway for tourists to know the famous Brazilian beaches and some of the rich northeastern culture.
